2007 Update!

MARIANE JANG:
-2007: What are you doing right now and where?
In the London office, sitting in front of my computer, itching to get out of the seat so I can go have dinner....
-What would you love to do this year?
Learn to surf, get better at yoga, work on some more interesting projects at work, travel more, win that Vogue Writer's Contest, become a fashion designer's muse (namely Donna Karan's), get a job in NY (maybe that's for next year though).

SIMON HUGO:
-2007: What are you doing right now and where?
Sitting at my computer in London, waiting for the summer.
-What would you love to do this year?
Enjoy the summertime.

RAVEN HANSON:
-2007: What are you doing right now and where?
In Hong Kong twiddling my thumbs until my Singapore visa comes through.
-What would you love to do this year?
Get the damn visa! Go to New York. Wait around less and do more. Wake up early.

YVETTE LAM:

In Hong Kong, my office, looking at my piles of work and wanting to quit my job.
-What would you love to do this year?
Enjoy life, do no work but still have income/salary.

- RIGHT NOW? : Eating a shitload of chocolate as always and thinking that I really, REALLLLY should get my ass to the gym before I lose my job...
- DREAM TO DO? : Well if dreams come true (to steal the title of Rosemary V's new CD title) then my perfect illustrator will walk to my door with a knock-down price, a publisher will snap up my little makeup book and demand that we create a super mini-series from it, then the book with my mother will be a raving success, Oh and the wedding will be perfect/I'll make loads of money from work/and the collars I want to make will be exactly as I envision them....

- RIGHT NOW? : I am going to start work in Arup's Sustainable Solutions department in May/June. But in the meantime I am volunteering at Save the Children, Greenwich and selling vintage finds to vintage shops in East London.
- DREAM TO DO? : Just be happy - that in itself is such a pretty ambitious goal i'd say. Or, I want to be an urban planner, planning cities in SE Asia like Vietnam or other developing countries.

What fun! It's so great to see pictures of the old gang...it's been over 12 years since I left HK, can you believe it? Anyways, I love that you are keeping everyone in touch, so here are some recent pictures for you to include. Other than maintaining the blog, what are you up to these days??? I'd love an update.

I just started law school in Seattle last week and it's been quite intense & overwhelming. But, I've met lots of new people and am enjoying so far. Other than that, I had an amazing summer--lots of traveling, including Israel & Belgium. I'm not ready for the vacation to be over...

Alright, back to the books. I look forward to hearing more from you!

Hey Miriam,
I figure that something like the FIS blog, once it's set up- is always there. Anytime we like (or need), there'll be a place for us to go and see what our dear old schoolfriends are doing. Those people who we knew when we were in our purest form; before we grew up and changed into the clothes that we would wear for the adult world.
This is a class and a family that will always have a strong hold in our hearts, and these are the memories that we will visit in our darkest hours... or while delighting in watching our own children play with their friends. One day :)
No matter how we turn out, there's always someone (and in this case, a whole load of someones) whom you can turn to for friendship and counsel in this big mixed up mash of society.
I think that now is the best time to start keeping a log.
While we are still exiting the youthful years of confusion and are emerging as young, sure adults. The pages are fresh and the experiences are new; big jobs, new countries- the rest of our lives laid breathtakingly at our feet. We can be whatever we want to be, but we must take those first big steps on our own, out into the big wide world.
And it's nice to know that there's a family of friends who are going through exactly the same thing, and are there if you ever need them.
Time will tell, and we will see how the blog turns out. We really need everyone's effort. Perhaps I'll write a plea. Perhaps I'll post this on the blog. Perhaps I'll just give up, and let us wonder what everyone's been up to in five years from now, with no links between us?

~ Moved back to Toronto for junior high and high school; went to University of Waterloo for Actuarial Science; did an internship in NYC (summer 2003) and one in Chicago (fall 2004); now moved to Chicago for a full-time job as an Actuarial Analyst at Deloitte Consulting LLP; travelled to the following cities in the last 12 months (in no order): Cancun, Boston, LA, Denver, Breckenridge, HK, Huang Shan, Macau, Calgary, Montreal

~ I have lots of dreams that don't really connect :)

~ A good job, a great apartment, an amazing boyfriend, a good family, ... I think JJ is probably the best part right now.
